Have you ever listened to a guided meditation on YouTube...Â
...and become flustered when the scene playing out in your head conflicts with where the story is trying to take you?Â
It's so distracting, I just can't do it.Â
I had a funny conversation with someone about their therapy sessions recently.Â
They said that because they take things really literally, they also found it difficult to follow along with the therapy guided visualisation exercises they were working on in their sessions.
For example,Â
if their happy place was in the dark underneath the duvet, but then the therapist tells them they see a door...
and next they're feeling the wind in their hair...
they simply can't put it all together!Â
It doesn't make sense to them.
It made me think about what I would envisage as my happy place and how that story would play out for me,Â
and this is what I came up with.Â
I didn't think too deeply when drawing it, but I love seeing in retrospect how loaded it is with metaphorsÂ
about being taken out of my comfort zone and feeling exposed 😅Â
The subconscious is a brilliant thing.
